Principal's Message
“Always be good even if others are rude to you. Think wise and think twice before you speak.Even speaking badly about others generates negative energy in us, which burns the goodness, so always speak well and think well. Be a leader!"
Dear Pines Family and Friends,
Greetings! As the natural cycle of the season has changed from summer to fall, so has the school year transitioned into its second term. It’s hard to believe that the first term has come to an end and we are now navigating a course through the remainder of the school year. With navigating a course through the school year comes new and old challenges.
The challenges of registering, placing and educating a new breed of Panthers has proven to be quite rewarding. We welcomed over 1490 students this school year and successfully met the state Class Size Reduction (CSR) mandate. Our teacher/student ratio of 22 to 1 (in core content subjects) has provided a well-balanced school day for all of our students.
The new state mandate of Differentiated Accountability – DA, has also changed the focus on how we conduct business at Pines Middle and all of Broward County schools. While we are no longer a DA Correct II school, we are still meeting the new demands of obtaining Annual Measured Objectives. Our instructional and support staff has implemented various components of the Florida Continued Improvement Model (FCIM) to increase learning gains in each of our sub groups to ultimately maintain our A+ status and meet AMO – Annual Measured Objectives.
We are also excited about our new and improved extra curricular activities we have at our school; Jazz band, Dance, Traveling Cheerleaders, Science Club, Aspira, Yearbook Club, and TV production just to name a few. Our boys and girls soccer both finished 5-3. Our Student Government Association - SGA and National Junior Honor Society - NJHS participated in a leadership conference, and Eric Bruckshaw was selected to perform with this year’s Florida All State Band. Kudos and congratulations on a job well done!
Pines Middle is still a Title I school with 71% of the student population qualifying for free and reduced lunch. As a Title I school, we received marginal funding to help with extending learning opportunities for our students.
Finally, our School Advisory Council-SAC and School Advisory Forum-SAF meet every first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. We invite all stakeholders to actively participate to ensure a successful school year, especially this holiday season.
Sincerely,
Carlton B. Campbell
Principal
